Hello. I am switching from an Olympus camera to a Canon EOS 5D dSLR. I already have 2 2GB xD memory cards for my Olympus, which I would like to convert to CF to save money. I saw a bunch of "xD Memory Card to Compact Flash CF II Adapter Converter" for sale on the web. Are those reliable? Will CF II work in my EOS 5D or do I need CF? Thanks for your help!
Can I turn my xD memory cards into CF?
Yes, you can use the xD to CF converter. Because you already own large xD cards, the price of the converter is worth it. I've used them with no problems in a variety of CF cameras from several manufacturers, although not the models you mention. I can't imagine it wouldn't work just fine, although I probably would double check in the manual for your EOS to be certain there isn't some problem I don't know about.
Reply:You're buying an EOS 5D and you're worried about saving a few pennies?
For your camera's best performance, you really need to be thinking about using a high speed memory card. Look at a very reliable brand such as Sandisk (Extreme III or IV CF cards), with a lifetime warranty.
Reply:please tell me how to use my camera it is a 100kpixels digitalcamera
Reply:You may want to buy some CF cards because performance wise they are much faster and your new Canon is optimized for those cards.
You already know some of the other drawbacks to xD cards, so putting them into a CF converter my protect them better.
You may have noticed that there on Answers, many of us suggest that people who are serious about shooting images, stick to cameras that use the most popular and robust memory cards (CF and SD) so they don't have to later replace them when they eventually breakdown and buy a DSLR
