My pc says to purchase additional memory cards in matching pairs. Is a moducle considered a pair?

My pc is a Dell 4600 and I want to add more memory. It has 256 now and I want to increase to 512. Can I purchase another pair of 256's to make 512 or do I purchase 512 memory cards. Manual says use matching pairs so will I have to buy 2 cards?

You can do both. But I advice you to buy another 256 coz this will make your memory circuits more and your computer will a little faster than 512. But Buy same type and same speed memory. I mean if your memory is DDR, buy DDR RAM. And it is important to have same speed.
Reply:no. 2 modules is a pair. some motherboards require pairs. you will need to buy 2 x 128 or throw out what you have and buy 2 x 256. personally, i would buy 2 x 512 if i were you. it isn't that expensive..
Reply:Depends on where you buy it, but most places will consider a module to be 1 "cards" (your term) and not 2 "cards". Usually they will call multiple "cards" a "kit".

I would recommend visiting a memory reseller and run through one of their configurator tools to get more info, such as:
