I want to update my memory cards. How do I tell what size are they?

I'm some what building / updating my disk top. I would like to know is there a size thing whan it comes down to memory card. As in fitting it to my mother bord. I what to give it new and butter / higher memory.back to where it is ans was 512 of ram. It was running 512rams and now only 224MB of ram do to takeing the butter cards and adding junk whan I got this. So is there a size thing or not. Right of now the O.S. is windows Xp pro sp2 with it running AMD XP 1500+ So let me know. I need to get this some power here.

If you bought the computer off the shelf, you can look up your memory options through this link http://www.cdw.com/shop/hubs/default.asp...

Choose any brand under the Memory Finders section (in the middle of the page). It should also tell you the maximum RAM possible. You don't have to buy your RAM at this website. You can do a web-search once you know what you are looking for. Good Luck!
Reply:btw your original 512mb ram is still in ur puter. like u said u have added stuff. that is what takes up ram when u start ur pc - alot of stuff gets loaded in the background that u don't necessarilly need functioning while u are puting. so go into start-%26gt;run-%26gt;type msconfig and on startup programs uncheck what is not relevant to load at start up time. that way u reduce the amount of progs taking up ram.

also download and install FreeramXP Pro , a memory management tool.
Reply:there is usually a sticker on the side of a memory card that tells you something like PC 2400 or PC 3200, etc, etc. usually you need to find that type.

like on this sticker, it says pc3200
