Why are there many different types of memory cards available?

There are so many types of cards available, SD, XD, CompactFlash, MemoryStick, Microdrive, MMC.

My question is why so many? I know there is reason for some, such as, MicroSD cards so they can fit into small devices, but why not have one standard form, everything would be simpler then.

Why are there many different types of memory cards available?
people have more buying power than others. Why are there so many different cars on the market?

Why are there so many cuts of meat at the grocery?

You get the idea......Things are offered to the buying public according to their particular needs, tastes, likes, and dislikes.

Happy shopping.
Reply:cuz some cameras have to have a certain kind and no 1 wants to take the time to change the system
Reply:When people buy more and more games, they need more space. That is why they make more different memory cards.

What type and brand of memory cards can I use with my HP R607 digital camera and where can I get the best deal

I need a memory card that can take more than 500 pics on my 4.1MP Digital camera.

What type and brand of memory cards can I use with my HP R607 digital camera and where can I get the best deal
This camera supports both Secure Digital (SD) and MultiMediaCard (MMC) memory cards 8 MB and larger. Only MMC cards that have been verified compliant to the MultiMediaCard specification are supported. Compliant MMC memory cards have the MultiMediaCard logo on the card or package.

SD cards are recommended, as they are faster than MMC cards at reading and writing data.

This camera may support memory cards up to 2 GB, though HP has only tested up to 512 MB. Cards larger than 2 GB will not work. A high capacity card itself does not affect camera performance, but a large number of files (over 300) does affect the time it takes for the camera to turn on.

The number of images that can be saved in memory depends on the Image Quality settings.

For setting the camera to a higher setting buy a 512mb card or a 1 gig memory card those should give you pretty close to 500 pictures.

best deal will probably be on the internet, however walmart usually has good prices too.

All you need to know
Reply:Online you can find 1Gb memory cards for £10 (in the UK) from Amazon, which would give you about 500 pictures

Anyone familiar with digital gadgets for instance memory cards?

I just bought a great 6n1 digital camera but of course for more memory you need a memory card so i bought a SD memory card with 1GB storage i wanted to know can you erase the pictures or video using the memory card the way you can just using the cameras storage because i want to be able to erase pigtures directly from the camera without downloading the ones i dont want thanks.

Anyone familiar with digital gadgets for instance memory cards?
You can erase directly from the camera. Ideally, download everything into your computer and erase from it. You will see the images larger then on your camera screen. However, always erase the memory card through your camera -- in other words "format" the memory card using your camera AFTER you have downloaded the images to the computer.
Reply:My moms camera has a menu that allows you to delete off the memory card when it is in the camera. Your camera probably does the same way. if it doesnt, download to the computer and just delete off the card that way then upload back to the camera. if your camera/card came with a book it probably will tell you how to delete the pictures.
Reply:I'm gonna say yes... cause most cameras do but... I need more information... what kind of cam is it
Reply:Can you view the pictures from your SD memory card on your camera? Then you should also be able to delete them just like your other pictures from your memory. Is there a trash can symbol on your camera? Try using that while viewing the pictures from your memory stick on your camera.

Can I mix 2 different memory cards on my computer? Eg one is 256 & the other 512?

my friend told me computer can only read the large one size, and the other small one won't be read. then the computer just have 512Mb memory in totally. I just read any answers in this yahoo about the different memory cards, but i'm still curious. can anyone help me give the answer please. thx

Can I mix 2 different memory cards on my computer? Eg one is 256 %26amp; the other 512?
Absolutely. Ideally, you'll want to make sure it's the same frequency though. (look for mhz). If they're not the same frequency, some motherboards will still support them, but that will slow both chips down to the slower speed.
Reply:yess you can have a mix of ram interms of capacity

but the type i.e. DDR I and DDR II cannot bhe mixed

incase you mix the ram spped it does work but as far as possible try using RAM with same speed
Reply:As long as they are the same type like DDR2 677 then yes. I have one 256 MB and one 512MB
Reply:No you can't. They must be installed in pairs for them to work

- 2 - 256K's %26amp; 2-512K's otherwise the motherboard will ignore one of them.
Reply:The size of the ram is not as important as making sure that the ram is compatible.. Put the larger chip in the " First Slot" or area accessed by the computer first and then the smaller chip in the secondary slot..

You need to know that the ram is compatible with the computer and with it's self.. you shoudl find that in the motherboard specs from teh company that made it.. and you need to know that it can actually handle that much ram.. ** don't put more in then the manual says the computer can handle.. it just won't work.. **
Reply:memory?

you mean ram?

if so, then yes.

i currently have 2 512's and 2 1 gig's = 3 gigs in total.
Reply:yeah you can.. it will read both of them...
Reply:This is base on your mainboard.

if Dual: 2 memory card must be the same.

If not Dual: the total memory is sum of eachs, that is 256+512=???
Reply:You should be able to add this memory card to your computer. This will work if they are the same kind of memory: pc100, pc133, DDR, etc. If one of the cards is ECC memory and the other is not, this will not work.

I had e250 before it is good phone compare to its price

It has 13 MB memory and you can expand it microsd card upto 2GB.

Check here for more info http://www.samsung.com/me/products/mobil...

many people get problems with their memory cards. sometime they become too slow and some time do not accept the data within their capacity. they may be the fake product. so use only genuine memory cards. there are many microsd cards available today. check some of them here http://www.blueunplugged.com/c.aspx?c=47...
Reply:You need a micro SD memory card for your phone. No other card is compatible unless you have an adapter to fit it. I think the largest card that would work in the phone is a 2GB card, but I'm not certain about that.
Reply:it depends if you plan to put music on it then you need about 2 gb i would go to walmart ask for the SD memory card. Look at the and make sure they have a micro card in them. When you get the memory card take out the micro card out of it and put it in you phone

Do memory cards come with a digital camera? if not what size should i buy?

i am buying a digital camera for myself and i will use it often so what kind of memory card do i need?

Do memory cards come with a digital camera? if not what size should i buy?
Most digital cameras come with a memory card, but it will not hold very many pictures at all. You will want to buy one. Refer to your camera manual to find out which kind of memory card to buy.

The most common are SD cards, and you want at least 1GB so you can continue taking pictures, only deleting them once in a blue moon.
Reply:For larger format memory try here.

http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Catalog(...
Reply:most digital cameras will not come with a memory card. they come with some internal memory that can hold very few pictures. i got a 2Gig memory card for mine because it was on sale and very cheap...it holds about 900 pics and 30min of video. so that is more than enough. i say 1Gig would be perfect or whatever you decide to buy
Reply:well it depends on if you keep your pictures on your camera and how many you take at any given time. 1 GB cards hold somewhere around 1000 pics and 2 GB-2000, I would not get anything smaller that 1 GB, personally, I take a lot of pictures, but I also transfer mine to the computer often and delete them from the card, so just consider how often you will remove them and how many pictures you take..
Reply:Buy the Biggest Card you can -- If your taking a lot of pictures that is the best thing to do, that way if you go to an event and you want to shoot alot of pics you won't have to delete them before it finishes!

Compatibility of Memory cards for Digital cameras?

I am going to buy a Digital camera and want to know that if it matters that which memory card I use..I mean is any brand is compatible with any other brand for example can I use transcend memory card in olympus digital camera?

Compatibility of Memory cards for Digital cameras?
Apparently that camera uses xD cards, an expensive and uncommon format. So no, you couldn't use that SD card you mentioned. (To me, that's enough to be a dealbreaker.)

The brands themselves don't matter, i.e., if you had a camera that used SD cards, you could use an SD card made by Kingston, SanDisk, etc. But obviously if the camera used CompactFlash you couldn't use an SD card.

When shopping for memory cards, do brands really matter?

I'm shopping around for a 1GB SD memory card for my new Canon PowerShot camera, and I was wondering, do brands of memory cards really matter? If they do, which brand do you recommend? Thanks in advance!

When shopping for memory cards, do brands really matter?
Brands don't matter anymore, for anything.

Most of the largest and otherwise "respected" brands have outsourced their production to sweatshops and have reduced their costs by giving shitty wages, exploiting workers and using bad quality raw materials. Most corporations nowadays would sell bad quality products and spend millions in advertising rather than focus on actually satisfying consumer needs and providing decent incomes to its workers.

You should not look for brands, but for overall quality.

Look to where the products are made, that's usually a hint on their quality. If they are made in first or second world countries like, say, European ones, Japan or Malaysia, they will tend to have better quality than if they are made in, say, Indonesia or China, where most "for-export" production is done by exploited workers in sweatshops belonging to western companies seeking to reduce their production costs. It's sickening.
Reply:It doesn't matter. what matters is the cost and the capacity.
Reply:No but but i perfer sandisk they're cheap yet high quality

Cna digital memory cards for a camera go bad. My new reader/writer worked good 2 times and now it wont work.?

I took the reader/writer back to the store, they checked it out and it worked fine. could it be my memory card? the card is 4 years old

Cna digital memory cards for a camera go bad. My new reader/writer worked good 2 times and now it wont work.?
Not really ... they are pretty robust.

The things that can happen are as follows:

* dirt or finger prints on the cards contacts

* the card has become corrupted by either 1) deleting images off the card rather than waiting to do it on the computer, 2) not formatting the card after each use (after copying your images to your computer) or 3) removing or inserting the card when the camera is still turned on.

Generally the memory cards will last for decades if they are not abused. One of mine went through my washer and dryer the other day ... it still works fine, although it is not recommended you do that
Reply:in addition to what fphotoace and Bill G's answers, you can corrupt a card by not using the "safely remove hardware" feature on windows. Just like any device, you need to use this to avoid corruption. Also, using store kiosks can corrupt your card. The store kiosks have heavy use and could contain dirt or particles that could corrupt your card.
Reply:They can go bad. I've had a couple of them go glitchy. One was new enough that I returned it and got another. The other one was only about a year old when it started acting up. First it gives me error messages in the camera. The only way to fix that is remove it, then put it back in. Now it gives me grief when I load the images onto my computer. It loads some of them, then stops. Electronics can be weird like that. They can work fine for a long time, then suddenly glitch up. Others can last for years.

Get a new card and see if your problems clear up. If so, then you will know it was a bad card.
Reply:I agree 100% with the two previous answers, but I will add that I have read, and you know you can't always believe everything you read, that memory cards actually do have a limited number of read / write cycles, though the number is very, very high. So in theory, I suppose the card could just be "worn out", but I would suggest trying as stated above first, especially formating the card IN THE CAMERA.

Steve

http://www.pbase.com/s_parrott
Reply:It is possible the card is bad - you can try formatting the card and see if that works. Format the card in the camera - not with your computer. Different cameras need different folders and "generic" files to be in certain places. If you moved or deleted any of the files or folders on the memory card (when it was in the card reader attached to your computer), the camera won't know where to save pictures. Formatting in the camera should resolve the issue of the missing folders and generic folders.

Since the card does not seem to work anyway, it can't hurt anything by trying, but you could gain a working card back...

Can you only use Sony Cameras with the Magic Stick Pro or similar memory cards??

I want a smaller camera, but would hate to have to buy another memory card!

Can you only use Sony Cameras with the Magic Stick Pro or similar memory cards??
You could also look at it this way...the majority of digital cameras on the market today either use CompactFlash or SD cards, with SD poised to become the most common form of media used because it doesn't have the problem that CompactFlash does associated with the risk of bent pins in the memory card slot.

If you plan to stick with Sony cameras for a long, long time and don't mind only buying Sony cameras just for the sake of the Memory Stick, then go ahead. However, SD and CompactFlash cards are so widely available today that I bet you'll be able to find a comparable CompactFlash/SD card at a cheaper price.

For example, as cameras become more and more memory hungry, you might need a faster card like the Extreme III from Sandisk. A 2GB MemoryStick Pro from that series that will go into Sony and only Sony cameras is $59. (Link 1) Meanwhile, a 2GB CompactFlash card is $45 (Link 2), SD even cheaper at $40 (Link 3), and the biggest camera makers like Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, etc ALL use one of those two media. Basically, with the Memory Stick, you're going to be confined to a brand of cameras if you don't want to abandon it, but if you're comfortable with that decision, then that's fine too...just wouldn't want you to miss out on some important info.
Reply:Yes.

Most compact digital cameras use SD memory cards

You should ALWAYS format any new card using the camera's format option to insure that it has the proper file structure on it. If you do this you should have no problem.

If you a digital photo frame check to make sure that it supports SD Memory cards.

How do you find out the speed of sdhc memory cards?

I need to get a sdhc 4gig or high memory card, with a speed of at least 10mbps. I found lots that have a class 6 rating, which means a minimum of 6mbps. Will a class 6 work in my camera?(Panasonic dmc-lz7)

How do you find out the speed of sdhc memory cards?
Your camera will work with any Class rating of SDHC, but the faster cards can write your photos and video to the card faster, so you can take the next shot faster or keep shooting visdeo for longer before your buffer is full. See this video for a demo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACUnPfVuB...

Write speed is what is important, not read speed.

Up until a year ago, SD cards were faster at write speeds than the SDHC cards as per this article http://flash.atpinc.com/news/extremetech... None of the cards had 10mb/s speed. The fastest had a 8.34mb/s write speed. See http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_p...

though SDHC cards are getting faster now, with some class 6 cards reacching 16mb/s http://www.hjreggel.net/cardspeed/speed-...

Okay i have a hp printer and it read my memory cards for awhile but its not working now do you have a anwser?
it would have been best if we had the model of your printer. Is it an all in one? If it is..Make sure that that card is compatible. There are labels next to the slots. Then make sure that card work on another device.. camera, memory card reader.. then if it does. You may need to do resets on your printer.

Turn off printer.

Remove power cord from back of printer and wall outlet.

Press on button for 30 sec.

Plug power cord back in.

Turn on printer.

If it still doesn't. Refer to your printer documentation for partial and semi full reset, NVM reset. Because if it still doesn't work after the resets, you may need to have it serviced.

No memory card = No saved games

So...

The answer is yes you need a memory card, it does not save on it's own and the amount of saved game that it can hold depends on how much memory you buy (I.E...1 gigabyte could hold maybe 4-5 games worth)
Reply:No, you need a memory card to save a game.

It depends what game you get and what size memory card you buy.

No. More like 1 MB can hold 3-5 game saves.

Right of now the O.S. is windows Xp pro sp2 with it running AMD XP 1500+ So let me know. I need to get this some power here.

I want to update my memory cards. How do I tell what size are they?
If you bought the computer off the shelf, you can look up your memory options through this link http://www.cdw.com/shop/hubs/default.asp...

Choose any brand under the Memory Finders section (in the middle of the page). It should also tell you the maximum RAM possible. You don't have to buy your RAM at this website. You can do a web-search once you know what you are looking for. Good Luck!
Reply:btw your original 512mb ram is still in ur puter. like u said u have added stuff. that is what takes up ram when u start ur pc - alot of stuff gets loaded in the background that u don't necessarilly need functioning while u are puting. so go into start-%26gt;run-%26gt;type msconfig and on startup programs uncheck what is not relevant to load at start up time. that way u reduce the amount of progs taking up ram.

also download and install FreeramXP Pro , a memory management tool.
Reply:there is usually a sticker on the side of a memory card that tells you something like PC 2400 or PC 3200, etc, etc. usually you need to find that type.

Reply:Turn your camera over and carefully look near the slot for the memory stick. There should be some marking there. The memory stick you purchase must match your camera.
Reply:No SD Cards wont work it has to be a Memory Stick Pro Duo
Reply:ehh ok i thought ur grammar was good anyway yes it should . if it doesnt it will take xd and not sd

Is there a list on some Website of amount of pix using different Megapixels and different memory cards?

Trying to find out how many pitures my daughter can get with setting at 5MP and using a 1 GB memory card.

Is there a list on some Website of amount of pix using different Megapixels and different memory cards?
1 GB on a 5MP camera should give you around 400 photos.

The file sizes differs on all cameras (even if the MP remains the same). For this reason, any website would just be a guesstimate.
Reply:A megapixel is 1 million pixels, and is a term used not only for the number of pixels in an image, but also to express the number of sensor elements of digital cameras or the number of display elements of digital displays. For example, a camera with an array of 2048×1536 sensor elements is commonly said to have "3.1 megapixels" (2048 × 1536 = 3,145,728).

Can Memory cards hold more than one game ?

I just got a PS2 for Christmas and need a memory card.Do they hold more than one game?

Can Memory cards hold more than one game ?
Memory cards hold as many games as their memory provides. The memory card will save on it however much you play. For example, if you use up 10 megabytes on 1 game, and your memory card supports 20 megabytes, you can play that game until all those 20 megabytes are full. Either that or : Lets say you play Dark Alliance, and use up 15 of your 20 megabytes, then you use 5 on some other game, you will not be able to save again until you delete something from your memory card. (i used a small scale for this, i have no idea how much the average memory card holds, or how much memory every PS2 block is..)
Reply:Yes they hold games in blocks. Depends on the games, and the size of the card, but mine tends to hold at least three at a time. Just get one to start and get more if you need them.

Why do 8 gb memory cards for psp come with adapters?

I've been looking on eBay for an 8 gig memory card for my psp, however, they all come with adapters, why do I need an adapter? and what does it do? None of the other size cards need them.

Why do 8 gb memory cards for psp come with adapters?
its because the way the mem stick duo is shaped causes issues with some card readers for a computer.

its not ideally sized basically.

and if youre looking on ebay for an 8gb, you might as well throw your money away. 99% of mem sticks on ebay are fake.
Reply:I'm not completely sure why, because I would need to look at the cards and adapters to tell you. It might be that they aren't memory stick pro duo cards (the kind psps use) so they use an adapter to fit in the psp. Also, they could hold so much data the PSP won't read it right or something and they need an adapter. Lastly, it might be one of those things that just makes it longer. If you want to use your memory card in something where the slot is set far back into it, you'll need something to make it longer so it will reach.

What's the best place to buy memory cards for the PSP?

I saw something on ebay warning about a lot of scam PSP memory card auctions so I'm a little scared of buying there. What are some other low priced stores for a 1 or 2 GB memory card for the PSP? I saw a lot of places selling seperate readers, but doesn't the card just fit into the PSP? Is there more than one type of card type?

Is there a way to delete stuff on your memory cards for the ps2?

So that you can have more memory instead of buying a new card?

Is there a way to delete stuff on your memory cards for the ps2?
Yes!, you just simply remove any disc from the PS2, then you leave it like that, then you simply insert the memory card without any disc in the PS2, then you switch on the PS2, wait for it to load then you would see two options (browser and system configuration) then you click on browser then you would see an option about the memory card and then you would click on the saved item you want to delete.
Reply:When you turn the PS2 on, go where it says Browser and click memory card. It will show you all the games you have saved and you can Copy a saved game or Delete a saved game. Hope this helps!!!
Reply:start it with no disc in it and click on your memory card on the screen. click on what u want to delete and i think its the circle button to delete
Reply:Reset w/ no game in it, select mem card, and press o to delete a file.
Reply:when you switch ur ps2 on,dont put in a game.

when the black screen thing comes up....press X then go to ur memory card...ull understand when u get there.then its easy, just press O to delete what u want to delete

If you were developing a new product, would you choose to use Micro SD memory cards or Mini SD cards?

Any ideas where the memory card market is going? I am leaning towards the Micro since Samsung now has an 8GB.

If you were developing a new product, would you choose to use Micro SD memory cards or Mini SD cards?
SD cards suck in general the best bet is a CF card-- they save battery life much like a pentium processor saves space over a AmD

What is the downloadable content at target for xbox 360 memory cards?

at the target i go to, and just about every target i remember, when you go in the video game section, and go to the area where you can demo the xbox 360 console, right under the screen, and above the controller is a slot that says something like 'insert memory card for downloadable content.' does anyone know exactly what this content is? is it worth spending $50 on a memory card?

What is the downloadable content at target for xbox 360 memory cards?
all it is is arcade demos that you can get off live anyway and the memory card barely fits because of the plastic there. But yes you should get a memory card maybe not the $50 but like the 64mb one it's good to have when you want to move or transfer something. I use mine all the time.
Reply:It's just the demos and videos...don't get memory card

Do large memory cards use more power in digital cameras?

I was told that if I buy, say, an 8gb memory card for my digital camera, that the camera will consume more power than if I purchase a 1gb card. Is this true? Or is the size of the card irrelevant?

It's a sony cybershot digital camera, with a memory stick pro duo memory card.

Do large memory cards use more power in digital cameras?
yes its true and only some sonny cyber shot cameras can hold 8g some times the memory is too big forr the phone to handle so i think its best to go with 2 memory cards of 1 or 2 g in each chip thats what i did and its been working for me
Reply:the size of the card is irrelevant.
Reply:Agreed. the size is irrelevant.

Flash memory is based on store and erase 'cycles'. They dont have to have power constantly going through them to store info like RAM or something.

Power is used momentarily during the time something is actually written to the disk, and then again when that same piece is read from. All the time in between, the card is just sitting there. Thats why the card doesnt suddenly get erased if you take it out of the camera.

Where can I find a list of memory cards a Canon sd1000 digital camera can accept?

no idea what memory card to buy..

i was thinking of a SanDisk SDSDH-2048-901 2 GB Ultra II Secure Digital Memory Card . dunno if its compatible.

Where can I find a list of memory cards a Canon sd1000 digital camera can accept?
Great choice. The SD1000 accepts ANY "SD" card, including the new SDHC cards. The 2 GB Sandisk Ultra II is exactly what I have for my SD900 and it's what I recommend 90% of the time. Great choice.

Go here, click on the "Specifications" tab and look a little ways down the page for "Image Storage." It will not specify a brand, because all SD cards are interchangeable. Sandisk is one of the best brands, though.

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contro...
Reply:I just bought SD1000 and i love it, i'm sure you will too. Memory card you should get is SD (Secure Digital Memory Card) Instead of getting a 2GB card i would get a 1GB card and get two of them. Reason for this is, people tend to be lazy and because you have so much memory on 2GB and you can store so much pictures, you probably won't delete the pictures and you'll have thousands of pictures on there, which in time will drive you insane going through all of them. As a practical sense 1GB will take 500 high quality large pictures.

here are couple of links as to where i buy memory cards from.

You need a Sandisk Memory Stick Micro M2 Card.

you can find it on: http://www.salerepublic.com/products.php...

and no its not that cheap. the 1GB is cheaper than the 2GB, but for your phone. 2GB is the best!

(and maybe the 2Gb ones, but im not sure)

ebay would be your best bet for the cheapest sd cards

they range from about 10 bucks to 20 bucks.

but with a 1gb sd you can have about 5 movies on there and 100 songs. =]

hope this helped ^^

Does Fujifilm Finepix Z5 camera support SD memory cards?
No. xD only.

I'm surprised that you think xD cards cost a lot more, they used to but the price difference between them and other memory is now so small that it's not really a consideration.

How do you put gamecube memory cards into wiis?

been trying to play ocarina of time for quite some time, need to fidn out how to put the memory card into the wii.

How do you put gamecube memory cards into wiis?
They go in the slot under the top flap of the Wii with the label facing top or right depending on your Wii's orientation.
Reply:There are some doors / flaps on the left side (or the top) of the wii - 2 gamecube mem slots and 4 gamecube controller sockets...
Reply:On the top of the Wii there are two covers that open that encase the gamecube ports.

One is the gamecube controller ports. It is closest to the power switch and has four holes (four camecube controllers).

The smaller one if the one you are looking for. It is next to the controller ports and is closest to the connector wires. It has two memory card shaped holes in it for memory cards.

Have fun with your Wii!
Reply:I just ran down the stairs to have a look at mine lol

You know on top of the wii? Where the flap for GC controllers is?

Theres another flap next to it, thats for memory cards.

:)
Reply:Pop the lid on the topnear the back.

There should be 2 slots there I believe.
Reply:There's 2 memory slots on top of your Wii just put them in like you normally would
Reply:it is an openong right to the gc-remote-opening
Reply:If the Wii is laid down, there is a slot on the left side, just lift up the flap and you will find where they plug in.

Does an Xbox 360 use memory cards or a hard drive to save games?

Also, does the regular Xbox use memory cards?

Does an Xbox 360 use memory cards or a hard drive to save games?
It uses both memory cards and hard drive. If you run out of space on your hard drive you either have to buy another hard drive or buy a memory card. Hope this helped.
Reply:It depends on what you buy. A normal xbox will work on memory cards or with a hard drive if you buy it seperately. If you bought a deluxe kit then you get a 12 gig memory card with it. If you get the brand new shiny black xbox it has like a 100 gig memory so no worries there.
Reply:Both hard drives and mem cards. It depends what XBOX you get. The one w/o the hard drive is cheaper at first and the mem cards allow you to take your games to other places.

The one with the hard drive however, in my opinion is better though it is $100 more since it is more convienient and saves you more money in the long run.
Reply:It does both

My friend purchased one with a memory card but in order to download any games you need either the 20 or 120 gig hard drive. 20 gig is a hundred bucks while the 120 gig is 179.99 so he had to buy a hard drive anyway plus you get a headset and wireless controller if your purchase the premium xbox360 so go with that or if you got the loot get the elite!
Reply:It already has a harddrive but if your like me you need more than you can bur memory cards.
Reply:hard drive
Reply:Either. If you have the core system with no hard drive, you have to use cards. The premium system comes with a 20gig hard drive. It's so worth it to have the hard drive. It's one hundred more dollars, but you also get a wireless controller instead of a wired one that you get with the core. The memory card costs about 60 bucks I think.
Reply:It uses either one, but the hardrive costs more and has more memory
Reply:both
Reply:you should check out this site where you can get an xbox 360 for free
Reply:I can use both but the hard drive has a lot more memory to save stuff on when the memory card can only save 4 about one game.

Also regular xbox does use memory cards but, you have so much built in memory you don't need it. Unless you are going 2 a friends house or something...
Reply:360 you can do either or........memory cars come in like 64MB...at least thats what I have......hard drives have a crazy amount of storage, but if you dont get it with the system it costs 100 dollars

I am getting a Canon A630 digital camera. What additional memory cards should I get?

I'm not sure about the difference between SD and SDHC memory cards. I am going on a two week vacation and I want to make sure I have enough memory for about 500 pictures.

I am getting a Canon A630 digital camera. What additional memory cards should I get?
Sandisk and Lexar come bundled with image recovery software that you copy onto your computer before you format the card. I am sure that the cards all pretty much perform the same, but these brands have a lifetime warranty for some of their products, so that makes me think they are built to higher standards. As far as day-to-day use, I have some generic and some of each brand I named and they all work. The contacts on the brand name cameras seem to have the equivalent of the "thunk" that you look for when you shut a car door to check it's quality, if you know what I mean. You don't wonder, "Is it in there right?" because it just feels right. I don't buy generics any more, though. I just end up getting them "with things" somehow.

You can use either SD or SDHC, but SDHC is probably overkill, which means you don't need to spend the money for the extra speed. I recommend a genuine Sandisk Ultra II (60X) or Extreme III (133X) of at least 1GB - preferably 2 GB - for your camera. Lexar is another excellent card supplier and they have the "Professional" 133X as well as the Platinum 80X to choose from. Both Lexar and Sandisk come with image recovery software and limited lifetime warranties.

Ignacio's idea of using two 1 GB cards is not a bad idea, either, although obviously, this will cost more than buying one 2 GB card.
Reply:For 500 pictures you're gonna need at least 2 GB worth of memory.

In your shoes I would probably buy a 2GB and a 1GB card. If you don't want to spend on the 2 GB then go for at least 2 1GB card.

I usually try to avoid putting all my eggs in one basket with memory cards.

And the kind? I believe the A630 accepts SDHC, so either kind will work. I would probably get whatever is cheaper. By the time you need more memory prices will have dropped again.

Hope this helps!

Is it possible for a camera to corrupt memory cards?

My office uses an old 3.1MP FujiFilm Digital camera when they visit job sites. The camera came back once and we tried to pull the images off of it on different readers in the office but they all would not show the card. A new XD card was bought and pictures were taken. Yet again today when i put it in a brand new card reader it does not show on any of the machines here. The card was formatted in the camera. So can a memory card get corrupted by a camera?

Is it possible for a camera to corrupt memory cards?
Hmm this sounds similar to a problem I had with my fujifilm. I think what has happoened is that the card has a write protection on it. What happened to me was that when I put the card in a slot, it came up with a million error messages saying the card is protect blah blah. I had to push enter until it had loaded all the pictures in the folder. you should be able to pull the photos off after that. Another thing to try is to use a cord to attach the camera to the computer. This camera should use the same cord as most other digitil cameras. That should bypass the problem. Another problem might be that you need to re-install the driver for your camera. I hope this all makes sense. Good luck
Reply:yes... our otherwise normal camera corrupted the memory card when my husband went on vacation
Reply:it's possible and it does sound like your camera might be ruining those cards. If you can find another camera to use those cards in, try that. Hopefully those cards are salvageable. If you use another card, and it gets ruined, just pitch the camera since it's very old anyway. You can get a decent camera for about 150
Reply:yes, if you leave your camera in very hot or cold weather and if you leave memory card for long time.
Reply:* If you are in the habit of deleting images off the card in the camera, corruption is possible.

* If you do not format the card after the images are transferred to the computer each time, you can get corruption. The more images a card can hold, the more the above practices can influence corruption.

Best practice is to carry an extra card with you, never delete in the camera and format after every use (after you have the image files on your computer) and delete the images you don't want using your computer skills and the computers file manager.

NOTE: Unless you have your computer set to "auto-play", the card will not come up as a removable drive. You will have to open Windows Explorer to see the drives on your computer and then go from there
Reply:Sure, if your camera's messed up.

Does anyone know about those 5 megapixel digital video cameras with the memory cards?

I wanted to buy one, however, is the 32MB internal memory or the memory card large enough to tape a 2 hour school play or a 1 hour soccer game? And can they be hooked to the TV to record over to a DVD?

Does anyone know about those 5 megapixel digital video cameras with the memory cards?
In short, Yes, a 2GB memory card or so will hold more than 2 hours of footage. But with my experience in the industry I would never buy those types of cameras. The main reason being, the camera is a camera with a video function and not a true video camera. So the quality of what you are recording is crap and the same quality as a Youtube video. They are Cheap and Nasty cameras.
Reply:Don't know myself, but have always found the staff in camera shops to be very knowledgeable. If you have a John Lewis store nearby, their staff are usually very helpful too. I recently bought a good camera for my daughter and her partner and the staff told me that the storage capacity wasn't good, but for only a few quid I upgraded the memory card to ensure there was plenty of storage. Bought from John Lewis.
Reply:man there's like 10 megapicel cameras now. get them ones.

Can someone tell me about micro SD memory cards?

Many cell phones have a expansion slot for adding memory such as the Micro SD cards. I found a memory card that says Micro SD HC. What does HC denote, and is this compatible with most cell phones?

Can someone tell me about micro SD memory cards?
HC Cards are a newer format that can have greater capacities than the older standard SD cards. SDHC stands for Secure Digital High Capacity. However, they are not backwards compatible with older devices even though they may fit in the slots. Only devices that specifically say HC on them will be able to utilize those cards. Unless your cell phone says it accepts SDHC cards, looks for something else. I hope this helps.
