Is there any real difference between brands of SD flash memory cards?

I need an SD card for my Treo 650 and there appears to be a wide range of brands and prices for 1GB cards. Is there a genuine difference? Is a cheap card a bad choice? Are there "better" brands when it comes to storage value?

Reply:sandisk is the industry standard in cards and have reputable performance and good quality. generally the generic cards will be okay but do tend to break down faster than the name brand ones.
Reply:No idea all the way, SD is so fragmented it's like early floppy industry replayed in 21st century, some people around the 'Net will report one bad experience with one brand, while rare, they do exist.





But 1 GB is safely small, the bad raps I read was about 2 GB and even 4 GB ones. So I doubt there is difference other than the speed of it for a small nibble like 1 GB..
Reply:There is a difference between TYPES of flash memory (i.e. SD, MMC, XD, etc), but there's not really a difference from brand to brand. There may be a slight difference in transfer speed that you wouldn't even notice. Flash memory has no moveable parts, thus there is virtually no ware %26amp; tear. The only way they will break is if you snap it in half with your fingers.
