Can someone tell me where I can go to find how much certain MB memory cards can hold pictures?

I just need some sites that will tell me for my camera. I'm not looking for a specific type that's why I need a site to look at all of them. Please %26amp; Thank you.

Can someone tell me where I can go to find how much certain MB memory cards can hold pictures?
Simple enough. If you have a 1 GB memory card and you set the quality of your pictures so that they are eg 4 MB in size:

1 GB approx = 1024 MB

So you can theoretically store 1024 MB/4 MB = 256 pictures

Of course things vary and you usually don't get the full 1024 MB from memory cards or any storage devices. But that's the order of magnitude you're looking at.
Reply:well it's depend on your camera megapixel

Changing memory cards on cell phone?

I have a nokia 6682 and want to change the memory card.

How do I transfer everything on my 64mb card to my new 1gb card?

Changing memory cards on cell phone?
1 possible way of doing this is to transfer the data onto the phone in stages, then transfer it to the new memory card. For example, move all the music from the smaller card to the phone, then swap the memory card, then move the music to the new, larger memory card.

Then put the smaller memory card back into the phone and repeat the process for pics, videos, etc.

However, it is important to note that some data on the original card may not copy back to the phone, if it was purchased directly from the mobile phone company, due to copyright reasons. This applies across all types of data, including purchased music, purchased videos and purchased games. If the data was originally copied from a computer, it should move ok.

Another way to do it is this. If you have a computer data disc for your phone, copy all the data from the phone's memory card to the computer, then remove the original memory card from the phone, replace it with the new one and copy the card data from the computer back to the new. bigger card.

Hope this helps you.

Can i Still use my old cell phone memory cards on a new phone?

I have a Chocalate flip 8600 and thinking of getting those new shine 8700 phones but can my memory SD card still work in it, I have soo much data and pics on there that i might consider just fixing my phone if the card won't work on it , help

Can i Still use my old cell phone memory cards on a new phone?
it should work if the new phone supports the same type of memory card
Reply:Hopefully the new phone will have space for your SD card. If you're really worried about losing your data, I suggest you by an SD card-reader for your computer and back-up all your data onto your computer.
Reply:You should be able to use your Memory card in the new phone. As long as it supports the same size, type of memory card it should work. Just hope the new phone doesn't want you to format the memory card inorder for you to use it because formatting will delete everything.

Can you save more than one game on memory cards for gamecube?

Does it depend on which one you get and can it hold the files ofmore than one game?

Can you save more than one game on memory cards for gamecube?
Yes, if you get the 56 bite memory card, it sucks, i tried playin the sims on it, and i couldn't turn off my gamecube for a whole week..

but if you get the 200+ memory card(usually black) you can save up to 5-20 games, depending the bandwidth of the game files you save.
Reply:Yes, however it depends on the size of some games, for instance, luigi's mansion, it is a large game on a small memory card, your best bet is to have the 16 mb card for no trouble.

Are Kingston memory cards as good as the SanDisk memory cards?

I ordered a Kingston 1GB memory card with my Canon Powershot S2 because it was 10.00 cheaper than the SanDisk and the Dell representative(these people don't usually know what they are talking about) told me that is what they sell the most of. What are your experiences?

Are Kingston memory cards as good as the SanDisk memory cards?
i have a canon powershot sd 400 elph. when i first got it i also brought a kingston card because it was cheaper. i had a family reuion where i used my camara later that night i went to review my pics and they were gone. im no rookie at using a cam but i figured i formated my card on accident but it also happend two days later. i now have a sandisk cause the people at bestbuy said it was the most popular. i have used it for every major trip and have not had a problem yet. so if pictures are improtant to you go with the sandisk. and with that amout of memory(1gb same as me) you should put it on highest quality and still be able to take about 600+ pictures. you will see the difference when you load them to your computer.
Reply:I have a sandisk card and so far nothing has happened to my pictures. It works perfect. I did look at some reivews about the card on amazon and some people seem to be unhappy with their card Report Abuse

I recently went on www.phonezoo.com for free ringtones but I don't have internet access on my phone so I can only take the ringtones from my computer %26amp; store on memory card or use bluetooth to get it on my phone.

OR

Does anyone know how to use bluetooth to get ringtones onto your phone if the ringtone is already saved on your computer? PLEASE HELP!

My cell has a slot that says microSD. what kind of memory cards can i put in there? i want it to put music in?
you would have to get a MicroSD card. they come in 512mb, 1gb, and 2gb. They are just really tiny memory cards. check out radioshack.com becuase they carry them. they are expensive though so i always wait until they are on sale.

You can see if you can get software for your phone which comes with the sftware CD and a usb cable so you can connect your phone to your comp. and download music, pics, ringtones, and videos.

also found at radioshack.com lol
Reply:Its a micro sd card i caught mine on sale at officedepot 4 $15.00 but heres a site where they have great cell accessory prices cellphoneshop.net
Reply:its a micro SD card .. you can get them at best buy, ect .. reasonable between $30-50 for the smaller ones.

Unless your computer has bluetooth your not going to be able to bluetooth them, you maybe able to purchase a usb cable around 30 bucks to transfer them.

Are there any GOOD camcorders that have the option to record DVDs and memory sticks or SD memory cards?

This camcorder is for a school. We are creating podcasts for the web and DVDs for distribution throughout the school. Believe it or not, I do not have DVD players on my classroom computers so I have a portable that is shared in the classroom. Hence, we will create DVDs from one shared computer but the students need to edit and upload via usb. Cards are easier than cable connections. I've been eyeing the Sony DCR-HC90 Mini DV (with Memory Stick) and the Sony DCR-DVD403 (with DVD). I'm on a time clock (I have a grant) and I'm not familiar with camcorders. I'm limited to a cost of about 700.

Are there any GOOD camcorders that have the option to record DVDs and memory sticks or SD memory cards?
I use Canon ZR85 and love it. It has a memory stick but only for taking still pictures. It uses a MiniDV. If you are wanting to make DVDs for distribution, you'll want to buy a camcorder that records to a DVD. But if you want to edit it first, then you can just go ahead and buy a miniDV camera and then buy an editing software and then you can burn your edited video to DVD or other variety of ways.

For an editing software, I'd get Pinnacle. It's an awesome software and easy to use. You just go through a short tutorial on it and you're good to go. You can also use this software to change the format of your video so you can use it for your podcast.
Reply:By far the best site to visit is www.camcorderinfo.com. Enjoy.

How does the next scenario in RPG Maker 1 work and do you maintain your data when you switch memory cards?

Ok I asked this question on faq but never got an answer and i looked it up on the web and it just told me you can start new scenario data. I need more in-depth details so if you can explain it to me please do. Also, don't reply if you think this was a stupid question to ask on here I mean I know it's odd but i just thought someone on here's gotta know so please just explain it to me.

How does the next scenario in RPG Maker 1 work and do you maintain your data when you switch memory cards?
I had RPG Maker 1 and I always had to use my whole memory cards for a decent game the next scenario just lets you create another game and I believe all your system info is the same and Event info is erased so you can start fresh with the same magic items, graphics, etc. I myself have 6 different games all on each memory card so if you like the game invest in PS1 cards cause Ps2 cards dont work and the game consumes 87% of the card for a game thats comparabiel to Final Fantasy or Chrono....By the way RPG Maker 2 sucks !!!!

How do you format memory cards on a Fuji finepix S7000?

This is a camera I use at work and cannot get it to format memory cards and I am only able to take 5 pics before it is full.... Definatly not like my 10D!!! please help!!!

How do you format memory cards on a Fuji finepix S7000?
Well, I looked it up...and you should be able to Format the card in the SETUP menu of the camera...so I don't know why you are having a problem.

As well as using the highest quality jpeg setting, the camera can also shoot in RAW (however, BOTH these options produce huge 12MB files due to interpolation) so check to see what file size you have selected in the menu. If your memory card only has a small capacity, then that could be a reason why you can only take 5 pics.

Just buy a larger memory card (512MB or more).

According to Megapixel.net, to get the best photo quality (one that is not interpolated), you should select NORMAL picture quality, which is 6 MB in size.

Good luck...and if all else fails, ditch the Fuji and buy a Canon...lol

I have bought my son a PS2. Are there any compatability issues for the memory cards with PS1 games?

We have another PS which is only used for PS2 games but this machine is to be used for PS1 and 2. We have a PS1 card but the games say this is full... The PS2 card isn't recognised by PS1 games..Will I need to keep both plugged in?

I have bought my son a PS2. Are there any compatability issues for the memory cards with PS1 games?
Lemme put it to you straight: PS2's are 100% backwards compatible with anything you'd need insert into a PS1, namely the game, memory card and controller. A PS2 will recognize a PS1 memory card, but the opposite does not hold true. However, you can use your PS2 memory card to back up PS1 saves.

To do this, make sure both memory cards are inserted. Highlight "Browser" and hit X. This will take you to the screen where you can manage your memory cards. Go into the PS1 memory card and highlight the game save of your choice. Select "Copy" and say yes to the prompts. Your PS1 save is now on your PS2 memory card. Keep doing this and you'll have all of your PS1 saves backed up so you can just wipe the PS1 card clean. If you want to port them back over, just go to the PS2 memory card and copy from there.

You'll still need the PS1 memory card to play your PS1 games. While the PS2 will recognize PS2 games on a PS2 memory card (obviously), it won't recognize PS1 games on a PS2 memory card when running a PS1 game.
Reply:yes you will.

Playstation games can only be directly saved to PS1 memory cards.

likewise with PS2 games and PS2 memory cards.

however, from the Browser, you can back-up your ps1 game saves onto your ps2 memory card. BUT you will not be able to load them from your ps2 memory card to play.
Reply:Daughter says when she had a PS2, her PS1 memory cards wouldn't work on it..
Reply:when i put a memory card in my ps2 it worked unless you have to program it
Reply:You should have got him a PS3...
Reply:ps1 games need a ps1 memory card as i guess you have discovered. just turn the ps2 on without a disc in, press x after it has booted up and you can access the memory cards plugged in and thn delete some old or unwanted save game files to make room on the memory card
Reply:Okay the PS2 is simple. You can play PS1 games on a PS2 just fine, but you need an old fashioned PS1 memory card to actually save files. you can transfer files to a PS2 memory card too, but you must have the PS1 card itself to save and play the PS1 games.
Reply:Yes!

When pictures are downloaded from memory cards the earlier ones are also loaded.how to avoid?

whenever i load pictures into computer the earlier loaded pictures also are getting loaded.if the same pictures are loaded more than once is there a programme or way to compare and remove the duplicates by the computer?

When pictures are downloaded from memory cards the earlier ones are also loaded.how to avoid?
It depends on your camera software. With my olympus camera using camedia software, there was a setting to only download the new photos, my sony software didn't have that option, I notice with my new canon, it downloads by dates to separate files. I'd check the help feature with your program.
Reply:Just stop it doing it automatically and instead select only those you want, and use the lefthand pane of the window to copy and paste where you want.

Memory cards for Panasonic Palmcorder PV-GS85 MiniDV Camcorder how long do they record for ?

I know sd cards vary in size, how long can you record on each size using this camcorder ?

Memory cards for Panasonic Palmcorder PV-GS85 MiniDV Camcorder how long do they record for ?
Panasonic Palmcorders don't record video onto SD cards; those are for still photos.

For video, use MiniDV tape. That's about 63 minutes of recording time on the standard SP mode, or about 90 if it supports LP...but I don't use that because you might run into compatibility issues in other devices and with software.

Are all memory cards the same even the cheaper priced ones?

I need an sd card for my camera.I have a 2g no name brand now.Would a brand name be better? If so how? What are the differences?

Are all memory cards the same even the cheaper priced ones?
In many cases, no the cheaper generic brands of memory cards are sufficent for many applications.

BUT....

Generic off-brand cards are often not designed to the same spec of the larger brands, or to the same tolerances, meaning moisture, heat, runtime, etc can sigificantly affect performance, sometimes rendering the card temporaily useless.

I've never had an issue with my SanDisk brand-named cards and I've run them through a full wash cycle!

Buy at Costco, they're very affordable and come with the full warrenty.
Reply:No. Stick with lexar and or sandisk. Faster write speeds and better reliability. Some camera manufacturers recommend to only use these two brands in their high end DSLR's.

I have used both and a knock off brand. I only had issues with the knock off. You get what you pay for. Good Luck.
Reply:i've heard horror stories of no name brand SD cards. If your images are important to you, I'd buy a repuputable SD card, SanDisk, PNY, Kingston, etc. good luck.
Reply:The only off-brand I've used is Promaster, and it gave me many problems with error messages. I've used Lexar with no problems and Sandisk with only one or two problems in a few years.

You get what you pay for.

How do u extract videos from a memory card using an HP printer with slots for cards?

its an HP Photosmart c4100 printer, and its an SD card if that matters at all...

How do u extract videos from a memory card using an HP printer with slots for cards?
if you can see the card reader in your "My Computer" (it should show as removeable media) than with the card inserted in the printer double click on the icon for it and it should open so you can copy the video off the card.
Reply:Is it a USB cable connected printer?

Boot up computer with printer USB cable out of computer. then when win finished loading, plug in cable.

Win should auto detect printer and should give you a pop up box asking you what you want to do with files on card.

What is the difference btw ATI's Hyper Memory graphics cards and NVidia's regular one for notebooks?

I'm looking in particular at what are the best graphics cards for notebooks and I find it a bit confusing when ATI cards are marketed as 512MB Hyper Memory and I don't know how that compares to an NVidia 256MB regular notebook graphics card in terms of performance.

What is the difference btw ATI's Hyper Memory graphics cards and NVidia's regular one for notebooks?
ATi Hyper Memory means that it actually shares memory with the notebook RAM. And in your case, it can share the notebook RAM up to 512MB. This is what ATi says:...

" HyperMemory™ is ATI’s innovative technology that enables a reduction in the amount of on-board memory on a graphics card without compromising its overall performance.

Its advanced memory management technology makes more efficient use of all the available memory in computers with PCI Express® technology. Graphics applications can share system memory and use fast on-board memory for real-time processing between the graphics card and the computer’s memory. This ultimately increases the affordability of ATI’s RADEON® graphics technology ".

If you ask me there's nothing great here as it usually slows down the notebook.

The Nvidia ones however may be utilising a "Turbocache" design. This means that when it says that the graphic card has 256MB - it means that the card itself has 128MB of dedicated memory and will utilise another 128MB off the notebook RAM if need be (card + notebook RAM = 256MB).

Its very important to check and find out if your notebook has dedicated, Hypermemory or Turbocache memory. The best is of course the dedicated mems as you will not be disturbing any on board notebook RAM but this of course comes with a hefty price tag.

I'm currently using a Dell XPS with the Nvidia Geforce Go 7400 256MB. This card uses the Turbocache design. Surprisingly it works well and I can play high-end games like Half-Life 2: Episode 1 and also FEAR (on Min to Med settings, of course). I have no complaints regarding this turbocache thingie as it seems to know when to utilise the notebook RAM accordingly and it also comes with a software where you could actually control the maximum memory the card can take from your notebook RAM.

Hope this helps......%26amp; Good luck choosing....
Reply:Hyper memory I'm sure is just a marketing ploy of sorts. It's possible that it's just a higher clock speed of DDR memory. The problem with laptop performance isn't going to be determined by the clock speed of the memory however. Laptops aren't really designed for gaming in general because everything is designed to save power, not tweaked for maximum performance. Hard drives spin slower, the CPU will idle down to a lower clock speed, etc.

I wouldn't really shell out a lot of extra money for the "Hyper" memory, but 512 is always better then 256 obviously. Just be prepared for all of this to not really be a "laptop" unless you like toasty crotch areas. Modern laptops are super hot after about 5-10 minutes of use.

Are the images on memory cards damaged by airport Xray equipment ?

A friend of mine is goin OS in a couple of weeks, and I want to be able to let her know if this is the case.

Thank you.

Are the images on memory cards damaged by airport Xray equipment ?
Nope, not at all. Xray machines do damage film, but memory cards are completely unaffected.
Reply:NO. The level of radiation is to low. Film is on the other hand more sensitive and can be ruined. It is different like the information on a computer chip in your cell phone. It is unaffected by x rays unless extremely high enough to ionize the chip. Which if it were we would run out of airline passengers.:0)
Reply:avoid magnets...........i dont mean rich old oil barons

only magnets damage cards or extreme heat, i have know cameras to be dropped in salt water and the images survived,

ps: i take film all over the world, I use a film shield and have never had any problems

Reply:No but if you bring your camera gear on a airplane I would go early and ask them to go through the bag by hand. Some airports will do this if you arrive early enough. Also if you have a laptop in your bag they take it out anyways and open it up.
Reply:I volunteer at a high school for at risk students and prisoners at the Justice Center. I take my camera there all the time and have never had any equipment damaged by the Xray machines.

The powerful rays will melt the cards into gooey little plastic blobs and all your images will be lost.

Run away!

Is there a difference between SD memory cards for cameras?

I see regular SD, SD/HC, Ultra III, and a few other tags on them. Is there a difference in writing speed with these? Is this what contributes to shutter lag on digital cameras?

Is there a difference between SD memory cards for cameras?
Ultra, extreme, etc. is usually a designation of faster read and write speeds. SDHC means Secure Digital High Capacity - which won't work in all cameras, so you'd have to check your manual to see if it works with yours. HC does not necessarily mean faster speeds - just a higher storage capacity category.

Generally speaking, just about any card regardless of it's speed will serve your purposes, unless you're working in a professional situation where every minute of your time needs to be managed as efficiently as possible.

Also, this is not what causes shutter lag - that's a product of the camera's need to focus on the image and obtain the proper exposure settings.
Reply:SD=Secure Digital Card(16mega-2giga)

SDHC=Secure Digital High Capacity Card(4gb-8gb)

Ultra ll/Other= Faster Upload/Download times

*Kingston SDHC 16GB comming soon!!!

*I dont see a differance with my Sandisk Ultra ll and Kingston 2GB

*Recomended by me=Kingston SD OR SDHC
Reply:The HC just tells the consumer it is a high capacity card.. Writing speeds are only important if you are saving large files while shooting in the continuous mode.

Shutter lag is caused by the design of the compact digital cameras.

How many memory cards and batterys do you normally bring to a photo event?

i am new to photography (the boss knows this) and i got a gig to take photos of people at a MMA event. ill have my canon 5d and canon 40d, ill be shooting in RAW on the 5d, and S-RAW on the 40d. how much storage and battiers would you bring to a 5 hour event?

How many memory cards and batterys do you normally bring to a photo event?
BATTERY: If you're using your onboard flash (versus external flash) then battery needs will increase.

For the gig's I've done that are that long, I've elected to use an external flash w/ 2-3 sets of NiMH AA's and 3 camera batteries although I've only used 2 for any event I've done.

I've also used an external flash battery system (in addition to the standard flash unit) which has 2 main benefits.. faster flash cycle times and longer life but it is bulkier to have strapped to your body when shooting. Depending on your shooting needs you may want to consider this.

MEMORY: I bring 16GB worth of Sandisk Ultra II / Extreme III cards. I only shoot raw.

I agree that unless you need a 2nd lens, only use 1 camera.

HTH.
Reply:My canon has two batteries in the battery grip so that would easily cover the five hour event.

In terms of memory cards it really depends on how many photos you think will tell the story of the day.

My one gig cards hold about 60 photos in RAW format. My estimation is that you will take somewhere between 200 and 250 photos for this event so you might need as many as four- 1gig cards.
Reply:Depends upon how much you click.

Carry as much as you can.
Reply:1 main battery and 1 backup battery for each camera (4 batteries total, or 2 for each camera).

Memory cards: Every one you have. They are small and easy to carry, and it's always better to have cards and not use them than to run out of memory cards. You need the memory if you're shooting RAW. I would bring at least 6 GB and probably at least 10 to be safe. Figuring that a 5D RAW+jpeg file is around 15 megabytes, 6 GB would put you at around 400 shots over a 5 hour event.

SD Memory cards - are they universal to fit all Digital Cameras?

My mother has an Olympus Camedia C-180. Santa brought her a Tevion 2GB Memory card - it is still in its plastic packet (and may be returned if it does not fit). I tried the memory card from my Traveller Digital in the Camedia and it seems reluctant to slot in. Is it really necessary to purchase a Camedia Specific Card? Do such cards exist? Cheers (Happy New Year)

SD Memory cards - are they universal to fit all Digital Cameras?
Think it's an XD card you need:

http://www.mymemory.co.uk/compatible-mem...
Reply:No, SD cards are not universally used in digital cameras. Whatever you do, don't try and force it in.

SD cards are the most common type in general use. They're also used in video cameras and SD slots are built in to lots of computers and even some television sets and DVD machines (especially Panasonic).

There is also a mini-SD variant used by some cameras . With an adaptor this can be used in a standard SD slot.

People such as Sony (Sony Memory Stick) and Olympus (XD card) use their own types which are not compatible with SD.

If you're buying a camera/video/tv/PC/DVD or whatever in future it's worth considering what type of memory card it uses (if any).

These days I never buy anything without an SD slot. That way there is never any compatibility issues between my A/V gadgets.

Have a look at Amazon.co.uk for a range of cards to fit Olympus.
Reply:It'll be an XD card you need, they are smaller than SD.Different makes of digital cameras use different cards, SD, CF, XD................ best to check when buying the camera.

Olympus and Fuji make XD cards.
Reply:Olympus cameras ONLY use xD picture cards. If you bought an SD card, then of course it will not fit, and you will have to exchange it for the correct type of card.

An xD or 'M' type xD card is what you need. Any brand will be perfectly ok.

Don't forget to format it before you use it (this is done in the camera menu).
Reply:different cameras require different memory cards. happy new year
Reply:Yes, you do need a xD card rather than an SD card.

The way it usually works is that most companies have use a specific type of memory card. There are only a few. For example, all of the sony digital cameras use pro duo memory sticks, while all canons use SD cards (along with many other companies and devices). Olympus happens to use xD memory cards. So although SD cards are the most common form, you need an xD card. They're just slightly more rectangular. Happy New Year! =]

Is there any real difference between brands of SD flash memory cards?

I need an SD card for my Treo 650 and there appears to be a wide range of brands and prices for 1GB cards. Is there a genuine difference? Is a cheap card a bad choice? Are there "better" brands when it comes to storage value?

Is there any real difference between brands of SD flash memory cards?
i agree with reaper king. sandisk all the way.
Reply:sandisk is the industry standard in cards and have reputable performance and good quality. generally the generic cards will be okay but do tend to break down faster than the name brand ones.
Reply:No idea all the way, SD is so fragmented it's like early floppy industry replayed in 21st century, some people around the 'Net will report one bad experience with one brand, while rare, they do exist.

But 1 GB is safely small, the bad raps I read was about 2 GB and even 4 GB ones. So I doubt there is difference other than the speed of it for a small nibble like 1 GB..
Reply:There is a difference between TYPES of flash memory (i.e. SD, MMC, XD, etc), but there's not really a difference from brand to brand. There may be a slight difference in transfer speed that you wouldn't even notice. Flash memory has no moveable parts, thus there is virtually no ware %26amp; tear. The only way they will break is if you snap it in half with your fingers.

This is one of those things where you should really just go with who has the best deal. Check out the link below for good deals on Flash Memory...

You can use any SD or MMC cards for stills, but you don't need them to put videos on your PC - just finalise the DVD in the camcorder and put it in your PC.

What's the difference between memory cards and memory sticks for digital cameras?
Memory cards are just the universal term

... memory sticks...is another term of memory

cards coin by sony...

The most popular memory cards are SD for

normal consumer cameras....

I suggest u get the SD cards instead of the Memory

Sticks by sony as its much more expensive and it can

only be used with sony products...

SD cards are more universally used nowdays.
Reply:A memory stick is Sony's proprietary name for a memory card. They're pretty much the same in all other aspects, except for size and shape.

What is the difference in SD memory cards?

Some say high speed, some don't. For what would you need a high speed card? I have a digital camera, and it does take videos. I just want to know what to look for.

What is the difference in SD memory cards?
They're right, it's the transfer rate.

What this actually means to you is how fast the card stores your image.

Do you like to take a lot of pictures one right after the other (action pictures, like in sports)? If so, you probably want a high speed card.

If you only take one picture at a time and don't try to take another one immediately after the first one, then you probably don't need a high speed card.
Reply:The high speed is the transfer rate. The higher the speed the faster files will transfer to and from the SD card.

What's the difference between Sandisk's Ultra and Extreme III lines of memory cards?

Is there a noticeable difference in perfomance in my DSLR between the two? Or is it just fancy marketing?

What's the difference between Sandisk's Ultra and Extreme III lines of memory cards?
The only difference is in the speed at which you can advance to the next frame. For most practical purposes the Ultra and Ultra II perform just fine. The only advantage of the Extreme III

would be for professionals that take many shots in rapid succession. There shouldnt be any noticable difference in picture quality.

What are the odds of getting a matching pair out of 16 Memory cards in 5 tries?

Keep in mind that you know only two match each other.

What are the odds of getting a matching pair out of 16 Memory cards in 5 tries?
If there are 16 memory cards, 8 pairs, then getting a matching pair in 5 tries is sort of likely.

The math looks like this:

Odds is a ratio if favorable outcomes to unfavorable outcomes, o:u

Because each card has only 1 match (favorable outcome), and 14 cards that don't match the one you picked (unfavorable outcomes), the odds are 1:14 of getting a match each time you try, or 6.6%.

If you try 5 times, 5 x 6.6%, gives you 33.33% or 1:2 odds or 1/3 probability of getting a match.

To answer your question, the odds are 1:2.

a 15 in one card reader means that your card reader can read 15 different types of memory cards (like SD, XD, Memory stick, etc.)

4GB SD memory cards, Is cheaper better than its dearer Equivalent, and do they work at the same speed?

You see advertisements for cheap Sd cards and reviews on these some saying they are great and on a par with the dearer Sd cards. is this the case ? some people talk about the speed of them and some about the quality of the photos. so what really it the difference between them all ?

4GB SD memory cards, Is cheaper better than its dearer Equivalent, and do they work at the same speed?
They are all pretty similar. Photo quality is the same, capacity will be the same. The only difference if any is speed. The higher ends one would usually be faster, but unless you are doing multiple shots in quick succession (at a high resolution), the cheap SD cards will be fine.

HOW DO SD (for camera )memory cards work?

I'm not sure how the memory cards work do i put it in before taking pictures ? when i get home can i hook it up to my pc as usual ? OR do i need to do something different

HOW DO SD (for camera )memory cards work?
Yes, put it in the camera BEFORE you take any photos. Unless your camera has internal memory you will not be able to take pictures before inserting it.

After you take the photos you can either remove the card and insert it into a card reader on your computer of plug a USB cable into the computer ant into the camera to transfer the photos.
Reply:Haha. I was getting ready to say "It's magic", but then I see the rest of your question. Film I have a dim grasp of how it works. Anything involving computers or electronics just seems like magic to me!
Reply:You have to put the memory card in your camera before taking the pictures for them to be saved on the card. Other than that your computer should reconize the card in the device as it does the camera; nothing different.

Is there REALLY a difference between generic and brand-name SD memory cards?

So I've been doing a little research on the new SDHC format to ensure my new digital camera is compatible, and I'm looking to buy a 16gb SDHC memory card off of eBay. Is there really any difference between the generic brands (AData, Transcent, TopRam, Kingston, etc.) and name brands such as SanDisk?

Is there REALLY a difference between generic and brand-name SD memory cards?
Not really dude. I mean its like general medication. You can get name brand antibiotics for $60 or you can get the same thing, but with a generic title for $20.

Your getting the same thing, with a warranty, your just not buying it for the name they have built. Safeway soda taste like pepsi cola. You just only pay 50 cents instead of 2.00

enjoy your new 16gb, that thing is MASSIVE
Reply:no
Reply:No, I have both and it´s the same!
Reply:Not that I know of, I'm no expert, but Ive used both and see no difference. Save a few bucks and buy generic!
Reply:Yes. Brand names usually ensure their products are quality and will last for a really long time. Generics just want to chug out a product for someone who does not have the money to afford the higher qualities. Honestly, I would not go cheap with anything that has to do with either a camera or a television. You usually get what you purchase.

it will be very helpful if can recommend me what i'll need to do so

What exactly is action replay max and gameshark, are they CDs and DVDs or memory cards to connect to PCs %26amp;PS2?
Action replay max and gameshark are two cheat devices that allow you to manipulate a game's code for things such as infinite lives, health, level select etc etc etc ! They've been around since the PS1 and come on cd/dvd discs. The action replay max drive is a usb thumb drive that allows you to retrieve game saves from your PC to transfer to a Playstation memory card.

They offer the best price and they also have a wizard to make sure you are ordering the right memory for your camera and with next day delivery.. you couldn't ask for more
Reply:You definitely need to buy a much larger card...and one that holds much more than 30, because you never know when you will want to take more photos (especially on a day out or a weekend away etc)

Also, if you like to shoot 'movies' with your camera, then you will need a large sized card because 4 mins of best resolution video will take up about 512 MB of memory.

I would recommend a good, fast SD card such as the...Sandisk Ultra II with a capacity of 512 MB or even 1GB. Card prices have fallen dramatically over the last few months, so they are very affordable. Shop around for the best price.

Benefit of high speed flash memory cards?

Hello. I am wondering what is the TRUTH about flash memory cards. Will an SD card with higher speed perform better than ones at regular speeds? Is it true it'll help with flash recycle times and shutter lag? Is there a brand(s) you would steer clear from, or does it really matter? Seems like this one A-Data SD card I bought last year doesn't work as well as it should seemingly. Thanks in advance.

Benefit of high speed flash memory cards?
Here's an answer that I wrote for a specific application, but it will be useful to you in your buying decision:

The benchmark of 1X is a transfer rate of 150 KB per second.

I have not encountered a card that was not at least 4X (600 KB per second) and 12X (1.8 MB per second) is now a common speed for an unlabeled card. Compared to 4X, 12X might still be called "high speed" by some manufacturers. 40X is also a common "high speed" card and the transfer rate would be 6 MB per second. That's not too bad for most applications.

Sandisk Ultra II claims a minimum write speed of 60X or 9 MB per second, and a minimum read speed of 66X or 10 MB per second. Sandisk Extreme III claims a minimum write and read speed of 133X or 20 MB per second.

The largest 6MP photos on a D50 camera (for instance) seem to be about 3 MB, so it seems that an Ultra II could save 3 high data images per second, while an Extreme III could save 6 high data images per second. The D50 continuous mode gives up to 2.5 frames per second, so you could be gathering about 8 MB of data per second. If you do not have at least the Ultra II or equivalent, it is easy to see how the D50 bogs down at times.

Once the memory buffer is full, you can not save images any faster than the card can save them and the camera will stop taking pictures until there is space available in the memory buffer. This means you are limited by both the size of the memory buffer and the write speed of the card.

A faster card may indeed help with shutter lag, but probably only in a continuous shooting mode. I do not see any way that it could help with flash recycling time.

See also: http://www.lexar.com/dp/workflow/Pro_HS....
Reply:A fast memory card will do nothing for your flash recycle speed and nothing for shutter lag. These are limitations of the camera itself. Or actually, fresh batteries can improve the flash recycle time.

You might - MIGHT - notice a small difference if you shoot high resolution video or if you do a lot of continuous shooting. This is when you need write a lot of data to the memory card in a hurry - and this is the only time that the speed of the card matters. But even then, the bottleneck is usually the camera itself. Point %26amp; shoot cameras have pretty slow write speeds. Slower than a good memory card is capable of recieving.

Fast cards are intended for dSLR cameras. I use a Nikon D200. This camera can shoot 5 frames per second and every picture can be up to 16 MB. That means that I can throw 80MB per second at the memory card. 400MB in 5 seconds. The D200 can also write to the card like a banshee, so I invested in fast cards to keep up.
Reply:The way the speed was explained to me is that the download speed is increased. If you shoot in RAW format, then each picture will be a large file, and you'll want it faster, especially if you have a lot of pictures.
Reply:Faster cards will do nothing to help with shutter lag or flash recycle times. If you shoot rapid-fire bursts of shots they may allow you to work with more shots at a time.

I use SanDisk and a generic brand of CF regular cards (not high speed). And they both work equally well for me.
Reply:many good brands

it helps slightly

go for at least 50x faster

go to yahoo search

type sd memory card
Reply:The only real reasons to get a high speed card are if your camera has a rapid fire function and if you are using you camera to record video and you want the highest quality. It doesn't really help with flash or other functions. Other than that, a regular memory card is just fine. Sandisks are usually reliable.

XD memory cards - can they only be used in Fuji digital cameras?

My Fuji Finepix camera doesn't seem to be working properly and I need to get a new one, but would prefer to keep the expensive memory card that I only bought 18 months ago. Thanks.

XD memory cards - can they only be used in Fuji digital cameras?
Most Olympus and Fuji cameras use xD cards as the xD card is a proprietary technology and was developed by Olympus %26amp; Fuji together. However, Olympus SLR can also use CF in addition to xD.
Reply:That expensive memory card you bought 18 months ago...is now worth next to nothing. You could easily buy 2-3 new (same capacity) memory cards, today...for the same price.

So, there's no real need to stick to the same brand of camera.

Only Fujifilm and Olympus use xD cards.

Most other brands of camera uses the faster, SD memory card.
Reply:18 months is way too long to think your memory card is worth deciding what camera to buy. The price you paid 18 months ago is a non-issue. Check out Ebay and move on.
Reply:Fuji and Olympus introduced xD cards in about 2002, and most cameras they have produced since use this card. Given that this is eons ago in digital camera terms, all their new models and most recent secondhand ones will be xD compatible. Of course, it will still we worth checking for that ultimate peace of mind.

How can I transfer game saves to my PS2 without using third-party programs/memory cards? Can I use my PSP?

I'm using the official black memory card for my PS2. I heard that you can you connect your PSP to PS2 via USB Connection. It works, but nothing happens. What is the filetype of a gamesave from my memory card?

How can I transfer game saves to my PS2 without using third-party programs/memory cards? Can I use my PSP?
You cannot, yes you can connect but what you can do depends on what is loaded.

When the PS2 was released the PSP was not in existance so the PS2's own software does nothing. But if you connect a game like Metal Gear 3 Substance and on the PSP load up Metal Gear Acid you can unlock certain addons.

Socom 3 on the PS2 and Socom FTB on the PSP unlocks new weapons.

But thats about it. It all depends on the game, as for transfering files im afraid youve been mis-informed.

Reply:Canon DLSRs use CF.

However, there are various configuration like higher capacity 2- 4 - 6 - 8 gb, low/high speed. Price of flash media is going down fast nowadays that its very tempting to go for the highest capacity and speed.

You will have check the manual or Canon website on the flash media limitation of your camera model. If not supported, it may not function properly, so wasted investment and emotion.

In an attempt to make compact digital smaller and smaller, the memory cards eventually got smaller too.

Some makers of entry level DSLR's use SD and SDHC cards to make the transition from compact digitals to DSLR less costly ...

Eventually there will be converters available so the consumer can use their old SD's in DSLR's which use CF cards .. there is one made now, but it is quite expensive. It is cheaper just to buy a 4GB CF card for under $40 or a 2-pack of 2GB cards for $28.

SD Memory Cards - are they interchangeable ? If you buy one for a camera, can you use it to record mp2 or mp3?

I've got a new DAB radio, which takes SD Memory cards on which I can record programmes. Is this the same type of card I use in my digital camera ? If so, once I have used a card for pictures, can I then insert it into the radio and overwrite it with music ? And vice versa ?

All info gratefully received, thanks

SD Memory Cards - are they interchangeable ? If you buy one for a camera, can you use it to record mp2 or mp3?
This is called a Secure Digital card, and is interchangeable betwen any of thousands of devices that use SD cards. However, if you store music on it, you may not be able to listen to it on things like cameras, depending on your equipment, etc...
Reply:yes you can....
Reply:I think for some DAB radios you may have to reformat the memory card to make sure it's clear as files other than the ones it's able to play may confuse it (and vice versa with the camera)
Reply:If your talking about a Sandisk memory card then yes u can use it for just about anything.

Digital Photo frames for Olympus Memory Cards?

Are there any Digital Photo frames, on the market, that are compatible with the Olympus type 'M' Memory cards?

Digital Photo frames for Olympus Memory Cards?
You just need to make sure that the digital photo frame supports xD cards. All frames come with a built-in card reader, that generally supports SD, CF cards. Many also support xD, but not all...so make sure you check the specs of the frame first.

'M' type cards are standard xD cards...and 'H' type should be perfectly fine, also.

Do memory cards remember everything that has been on it? I lost all my pictures because my HD crashed.?

The memory card is not corrupt or damaged. I have deleted a few pictures. Usually when I retrieve pictures I either move or cut them to another folder. I would like to know of any programs or websites or companies that could help me with my problem. It is a Memory Stick Duo.

I am not able to retrieve data from my HD because I have reformatted it three times already.

Do memory cards remember everything that has been on it? I lost all my pictures because my HD crashed.?
www.undelete-plus.com just download the software and you can retrieve any information lost, erase, or even when you formatted it. let me know if this information was helpful.
Reply:I don't know if there is a company that can help you, but when you delete a file what typically occurs is the pointer in the allocation table is removed making the memory location available to be written on. Only when you format the memory is the entire card erased. I would assume this varies by camera though.

If you've used the card many times, the only pictures that may still be there are the ones that haven't been previously written over.
Reply:I'm not sure how it works where you are, but in Canada, our Wal-Mart has a service where they can try to recover deleted files from your memory stick. Call them, or any local photography shop, and ask them.
Reply:Have you tried using freeware file recovery programs like recuva?

http://bestofrest.blogspot.com/search/la...
Reply:backup important files to an external hard drive as well as DVD. that's what i do
Reply:format remove everything but there is still possibility to recover the previous format and whatever was on it. U can do it with program called "informant". However u said u formatted your disk 3 times unfortunately u can only unformat your disk to the last postion as it was before. So u will not get back anything from it, it's all lost

Are digital photography memory cards interchangeable with video camera memory cards?

Or are there different types? They seem to just say the amount of memory they have so I thought that maybe it didn't matter what kind of data you store on them.

Are digital photography memory cards interchangeable with video camera memory cards?
If the camcorder uses, for instance, SD, and the camera uses SD, then yes.

The cards are just storage media and are independent of the device. If the device has the right slot, the it will work in it even if it didn't come with it when you bought it.

It doesn't matter what kind of data you store on them, but be careful to back up cause who knows what the device will do to the data when you put it in there if the device didn't create it.
Reply:Standard SD cards are compatible with camcorders ONLY if they are fast enough. If a still camera takes an extra 1/30th of a second to write the data for a frame to the memory card, the user won't even notice; but if a camcorder takes an extra 1/30 of a second, it just dropped a frame! Report Abuse

Reply:It matters if the camcorder requires a minimum speed of SD card. This would especially be true of high definition camcorders. For example the Panasonic HDC-SD9 and Canon HF10 and HF100s require a class 4 SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) card.

The SCHC cards conform to the SD 2.0 specifications, which provide for speed classifications class 2, class 4 and class 6 (2,4 and 6 MB/s transfer speeds, respectively - note megabytes per second not megabits). According to the first source below, most cameras and (external card readers) made before the 3rd quarter of 2006 can NOT support SDHC.

So, they're not completely interchangeable.

If the SD camcorder you are looking at is not a high definition model, or if it was made over 2 years ago, it may be able to use the slower older standard SD cards - but you may want to check the manual.
Reply:It depends, if they use SD cards they are very likely to be compatible with each other.

I have a memory card reader on my computer that cannot read cards anymore, how do I fix it?

It use to read cards, but I haven't used it in a few months, so it stopped working...is there a way to reset the flash drive reader? I know last year this happened, but somehow I fixed it, and I don't remember how. I need to load some pictures from my memory card, and I'm tired of using an usb cord to connect it from the camera to the computer...help!

I have a memory card reader on my computer that cannot read cards anymore, how do I fix it?
You can try reloading the drivers. Go under your Start menu -%26gt; Control Panel -%26gt; System -%26gt; Hardware tab -%26gt; Device Manager. Look in the list for Human Interface Devices. Expand that node and you should see your card reader in there. Right click on it and select Uninstall. Then reboot and let Windows reload the drivers for it. If you dont see it under Human Interface Devices, look under the Ports node, it may be under that.

Do you need alot of memory cards on a PSP?

Is a PSP like a Playstation 2 where you have to buy a bunch of memory cards? Or is it like an Xbox that comes with a lot of memory?

Do you need alot of memory cards on a PSP?
You need to buy a memory card, buts its your choice if you wanna buy a more expensive one that has alot of space for it.
Reply:depends. You use PSP and have tons of music then yes get a big memory card. If you want to put movies and videos yes also. If you have about 1-3 games and you play it just stick with your memory card. If you have tons of games, buy middle 215 mb card. Like Dynasty warriors, you need some memory to save all that character

Either by purchasing memory card reader, then straight copy as treated as removable hard drive, or if your device you are putting the memory card in has a usb connection, then you can use a usb cable (normally supplied depending on device).

Thanks

What's the best way to ship internal memory cards?

I have 2 memory sticks for a laptop I am mailing. I know that when you purchase things of this nature they are in an antistatic plastic bag but I don't have those. How should I mail these?

What's the best way to ship internal memory cards?
First place them in antistatic bags

Then rap them in bubble rap

Then place them in reasonably firm containers caboard or plastic (sturdy plastic containers would be safer)

To be extra carefully ensure that the container is sealed to keep moist or water out

Then mark the container "FRAGILE ELECTRONIC MATERIAL"

And for as long as the delivery people are genuinely trying their best to do their job there should be no problems at all and the goods shod get there safely
Reply:anti static bags are made of polyester, a.k.a. mylar for the comic book fans. it's the same type of bag that potato chips are put in. so finish off that bag of doritos ranch, wipe the inside of the bag clean, then wrap your memory sticks in them. then wrap the entire thing well in a padded envelope, or a padded cardboard mailer

you know those silver solar eclipse sunglasses? those are made of mylar too (thicker than potato chip bags mind you...)
Reply:you can purchase anti-static bags at shipping stores like fed ex kinkos. i would not suggest shipping any sort of low voltage electronic device without one.
Reply:wrap in newspaper, then bubble-wrap;or cardboard backing

What is the difference between SD and XD memory cards?which one should i opt for my olympus fe15 model camera?

i have brought an newly released olympus fe-15 model digital camera and i want to upgrade its memory, which card should opt for it wheather SD or XD memory card?please help me............

What is the difference between SD and XD memory cards?which one should i opt for my olympus fe15 model camera?
I do not believe SD is an option for you. You will need to buy an Xd card for that camera. You can get some good deals at newegg.com, or another online store. The prices will be better than at regular stores. You will find that xD cards tend to be more expensive than SD cards. I would stay away from the auction sites, too many counterfeits being sold these days.
Reply:XD is smaller than SD.. i think XD is half the size of SD.. and true that u can only use XD in olympus..
Reply:Your camera only uses xD cards. SD memory cards are used by all but three camera makers. (xD = Fujifilm and Olympus, memory card = Memory Stick Sony only

Do SanDisk memory cards work with Olympus cameras?

I want to buy the Olympus Stylus 850 and am wondering if my old memory card will be compatible. It is a 2 GB SanDisk "Ultra II"

Do SanDisk memory cards work with Olympus cameras?
If your old card is a xD card then yes. If it is a SD memory card then no.

Only Olympus and some Fujifilm cameras use xD cards ... except for Sony all other P%26amp;S cameras use SD memory cards.
Reply:yes...but check it out on olympus.com....sould say what it is compatible with

Why do we format memory cards in cameras?

Just wondering why my instruction booklet for my camera is suggesting to format the memory card.

Why do we format memory cards in cameras?
"If you own camera memory cards that have been used in other digital cameras, the cards may not be properly formatted for use in your DC215 camera, or the data on the cards may have become corrupted. When these issues arise, your camera indicates that the camera memory card needs to be formatted.

When you format a camera memory card, all of the information on the card is erased. This includes any templates supplied on the card."

All cameras record and process data differently. Some create hidden files on the card that are necessary for unique operations (i.e. viewing the photos on the LCD screen, etc). Formating a card in the camera you want to use it in will help ensure the data doesn't become corrupt and your images will arrive on your computer intact. Kind of like making your own bed.

Most professionals will format their cards every time they put it back into the camera. Better safe!

Note that formatting will erase all photos on the card!
Reply:Because your camera will format the memory card in a format that it can read and write. If the card is unformated, there is no format or structure for the data to be written on. The format must be the same in order for your camera to read and write on.
Reply:the same reason we defragment a computer
Reply:A basic memory card is just a blank storage space. When you format it in the camera it allows the camera to insert its storage structure into the memory card in a way that is best read by the camera. If you look at the memory card in your computer, you will see that directories (folders) are created after formating. Once the card is formatted, it will prevent your card from being used inside a different camera.

Memory Cards?

Can I use another sandisk memory card, besides Magic Gate, for my PSP and be able to still hold music, photos, and videos.

Memory Cards?
yes.any memory card you like you can use.
Reply:yes of course you can.

any type of memory card will work i believe.
Reply:Yes aslong as it is compatible with the PSP system. If you try it to save a game, it will work with music and videos.
Reply:You mean, using a generic card, yes you can, a memory is a memory
Reply:Maybe because they have to be trademarks of Sony for them to work but yea i think you can.
